SUBMISSIONS CLOSED
UPDATE: The 8th KaraFilm Festival has been deferred until further notice. More information is available on this page.
The KaraFilm Festival is in the process of compiling all submissions received. If your submission has been received, you should receive an acknowledgement via email by mid-October. Unfortunately, because of the large volume of submissions received, we cannot acknowledge receipt individually before that time. If something is missing from your submissions package, we will also notify you at the same time.
The decision of whether your film has been accepted for the 8th KaraFilm Festival will be communicated to you, again via email, by end-November. We request all filmmakers not to contact us to check on the status of their films before that time since we will be unable to give you a final answer.
If your query pertains to something other than what is contained above, please email us and we request you to be patient. We are slowed down by the large volume of email at this time but will read all emails and respond to you in due course.
Sincerely,
KaraFilm Festival Team
Categories
Creative work may be submitted in the following awarded categories:
- Features (Fictionalized films over 60 minutes in duration)
- Shorts (Fictionalized or Experimental films, including animated work, up to 60 minutes in duration)
- Documentaries (Non-Fictional work of any length)
Formats
The work may originate on any of the following formats: 35mm, 16mm, HD, DV, DigiBeta, or Beta SP. An exception may be made for outstanding experimental work done on VHS. However, for the purposes of screening at the festival, we will require you to transfer work originating on video to either DV or Beta SP.
Shorts and Documentaries are screened ONLY from video (DV or Beta SP) or DVD. Please do not send prints. For features, the print should have an optical soundtrack. We are currently unable to screen with DTS disks.
Selection and Deadlines
To submit work for the festival, please send a VHS (PAL/NTSC) or DVD copy of your work along with the Entry Form to the address given below. You must also submit 2 stills from the film and a photograph of the director. Please DO NOT send masters at this stage.
You may submit as many works as you want but please submit a separate VHS tape / DVD for each work. Each tape / DVD should be properly labeled with the title of the work, name of the director, name of the producer or copyright owner, language, and length of the work in minutes.
All entries will be viewed by a selection jury. If your submitted work is selected for screening at the festival, you will be required to submit a 35mm or 16mm print, PAL, Beta SP or DV copy by mid-December. Any additional material, such as posters, pamphlets, additional stills etc. will also be welcome. ALL SUBMISSIONS SHOULD REACH US BY SEPTEMBER 15, 2009
Alternatively, you may submit either a short film or a documentary via Reelport (you must register with Reelport in order to upload and submit your film), no later than October 1st, 2009 (this extension for Online Submissions Through Reelport only).
Please also be sure to send the KaraFilm Entry Form, stills from the film and a photograph of the director along with your online submission on the Reelport site.
Eligibility
